CapGeek provides contract data on 2241 players, of which 1459 1455 appear in the NHL statistics data, who held contracts from 2001 to the present day. 194 capgeek players have teams marked as 'Inactive', and these invariably do not appear in the NHL data. The missing capgeek players presumably play in the minors.
