Cindy Ryoo is a 20 year old student currently working as an Administrative Intern at the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy's McNair Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Early Life

Cindy was born in Busan, South Korea and moved to the US in July 2000, settling in a small town located in Southern California called Cerritos. She resided there for 15 years and attended Gretchen Whitney High School, where she first discovered her passion for teaching during her time tutoring fellow peers and younger students in the local community. She moved to Houston, Texas in August 2015 to attend Rice University. She has an older sister named Jenny, who currently works at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Both of her parents still live in California with her two dogs, Teddy and Lily.


Education

Cindy is a junior majoring in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. She is also a candidate of the Glassock School of Continuing Studies' Undergraduate 5-year Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program and is studying to receive her teaching certification in 7-12th grade science.


Involvement

Cindy is currently Vice President of the Future Teachers Club and a two-time O-Week advisor at her residential college, Martel.


Work Experience

During the school year, Cindy worked as an Office Assistant at the Department of Art History from January 2016-May 2017. She is also a tutor for Test Masters Educational Services, where she specializes in SAT and ACT Mathematics. In her past summers, she has worked as a camp counselor at Summer Youth Activity Program (SYAP) at the Rec as well as a middle school teacher in Austin,Texas for students of low-income communities who hope to be the first in their families to attend college.
