==Example Session==

For example we might want to obtain information about executives of portfolio companies which received in British Columbia.

Run SDC Platinum, and login in with User Initials "'''EE'''" (without quotes). Fill in project description (type anything - just the number 1 is fine). Select '''VentureXpert''' and select '''Portfolio Companies''' under '''Industry Resources'''. Select '''Search Menu''' in Navigation Method (never select Express Reports). Double click '''Company Area Cd''' under '''Portfolio Company'''. Double click '''All Canada''' and select all '''British Columbia''' rows by double clicking. Open '''Venture Related Deals''' under Investment Type and then select '''All Venture Related Deals'''. Under '''Investment Summary''', open '''Date Company Rcvd its First Investment''' and set the dates. Exit search window and click on the '''Report''' button on the tool bar. Select '''Custom''' and find whatever information you want to display in the report, such as Company Name and Address, add them by double clicking. Click '''OK''' and click '''OK''' again on the right hand side of the window. Select '''No''' when asked to return to design mode. Input name for custom report and save. Choose '''Column Grid format''' and save as txt file. Click '''Execute''' on the top to generate the report.

==Potential Errors==

If you are opening a custom report and the rpt file you are looking to use to extract doesn't appear, there was a mistake in your choice of database. For example, when attempting to pull data relating to funds or rounds you sometimes have to chose Portfolio Companies in the VentureXpert database. Play around with choosing different filters within the database. Choice of which database to pull each type of data from can be found on the [[VentureXpert Data]] page.

Occasionally an error will appear at the end of extraction which reads Out of Memory. This error does not occur because we do not have enough memory so do not delete anything. Rather, it occurs because of defective memory processing in the program itself especially when running a custom script. To fix this problem either completely restart SDC (maybe even log out of the RDP) and rerun the program. If this doesn't work, go into the rpt file that you are running and slightly change something. For example, change 6/17/2018 to 06/17/2018. This worked for me and my data was successfully extracted.

If SDC won't shut down or reopens immediately if you restart RDP, go to Task Manager and force quit it. If this still does not work, you will need administration privileges to shut down SDC. Ask someone with this power, and your problem should be fixed.

On my last big usage, SDC reported an access violation at the end of pretty much every pull. This doesn't affect the output. Just say ok. It doesn't seem to affect the next run.
