Avesh J. Krishna is a sophomore at Rice University studying Political Science and Policy Studies. He currently works as a research assistant for the Baker Institute for Public Policy’s McNair Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Early Life
Avesh was born in Westchester County, New York to parents Dr. Arvind and Mrs. Sonia Krishna. Since 2005, the Krishna family has lived in Ridgefield, Connecticut. He has a younger sister, Tarini Krishna, who currently attends Ridgefield High School.
Education
Avesh graduated from Ridgefield High School in Ridgefield, Connecticut in June 2015. At Ridgefield High School Avesh was the captain of the Mock Trial Team and Debate Team as well as serving in leadership roles in student government and the National Honor Society chapter. His involvement in debate and mock trial motivated him to pursue further study in the social sciences, and flirts with the idea of attending law school or pursuing postgraduate degrees in the social sciences. In August 2015, Avesh began his undergraduate education at Rice University in Houston, Texas where he currently is a sophomore Political Science & Economics major pursuing a minor in statistics. He is a member of Brown College at Rice and serves on its executive cabinet (government).
Work Experience
In Summer 2017, Avesh worked as a political & research intern for the New American Leaders Project in New York, New York. He additionally conducted data analysis for the Connecticut Democratic Party as their data fellow. The prior summer, Avesh worked as a research intern at IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, New York. He worked with the Deep Learning group to develop visualization techniques for training processes. Avesh is also working with the Center for Local Elections for American Politics as a research assistant where he works on reports and academic research regarding the electoral landscape and candidate emergence (with special focus on gender and racial factors). Additionally, Avesh worked as an intellectual property analyst at Intellectual Profit LLC where he gained experience with the legal and commercial aspects of innovation.
Other Activities
Avesh is involved at Brown College as a committee chair and an academic fellow. He additionally DJs for Rice’s radio station KTRU. You can listen to him on KTRU from 8 to 10 AM Wednesday mornings.
